Kilmartin Castle was originally built in 1550 for John Carswell, then Rector of Kilmartin Glen, and later Bishop of The Isles, held as a Campbell Clan stronghold outpost after this. It stood abandoned for nearly 200 years, Now it’s a cozy retreat from the modern world ideal for romantic getaways, families, and friends to relax and experience the history of the surrounding landscape.

In 1825 a sale advertisement for the Kilmartin estate referred to 'two fine old castles in disrepair', and although in the following year 'the Old Castle' was named as the residence of a female pauper, it was described by the parish minister in 1844 as a ruin (en.13).

When the Rector Of Kilmartin, John Carswell, was given the title ‘Bishop Of The Isles’, he moved from Kilmartin Castle to Carnasserie Castle and instructed the Campbell stonemasons to get to work on a European inspired renaissance makeover. Kilmartin Castle was built in 1550, when Mary Queen of Scots was on the throne, for the Rector of Kilmartin, John Carswell, who later became Bishop of the Isles. The castle was then held by the Campbell Clan for 200 years before being abadondoned for 200 more.

It is a mystery why the castle was left roofless for the following 200 years. When back in Dubai they saw Kilmartin Castle for sale – they weren’t looking for a property to buy, but they spontaneously enquired… and it snowballed from there.
